New patient examination

During this extended visit we will examine the structures around and inside your mouth such as your jaw joint, lips and inside your cheeks, palate and tongue for any abnormalities.

We will then check your teeth for any signs of disease (decay). We will also check for tooth damage from other factors such as acid erosion or wear from grinding. We will also note and check any existing restorations you may have such as fillings, crowns or bridges and any removable prosthesis – dentures, for wear or damage. We will also examine the teeth’s supporting structures – the gums, for gum disease.

If necessary and appropriate we will take X-rays of your teeth during this visit which will help us detect hidden problems so they can be dealt with early. If we suspect there may be destructive gum disease we may take more x-rays to check the bone levels around the teeth. We may also take photos of your teeth which will help us monitor things and help us explain to you what we see. We will then discuss with you our findings and give appropriate advice on the health of your mouth and any problems we may have found.

If further visits are required we will give you a written estimate of the fees. We will note all of our findings into a bespoke record within our computer system.
